Thanks everyone for the great party in April! Little over 100 people attended IGDA Finland April Gathering at the Cuba Cafe. The talks went around GDC2010, Alan Wake and Nordic Game funding. Nordic Game Conference is just a week away! GDC2010 was all about social gaming and Uncharted 2. Independent games were well represented as well this year. GDC attracted record audience of 18250 visitors -- out of which at least 50+ were from Finland. Guys & gals from Recoil to Inaria Interactive, IronStar Helsinki to Remedy, Rovio, Redlynx and others were there. Other than GDC, Nordic Game and upcoming game releases -- just sweet good time with fellow developers.
For those who haven't been at the GDC here is "GDC in a nutshell" for you. GDC consists of two-day summits, expo and the main conference. This year the quality of summits (first two days) were good -- lots of good insights. Indie, social, localization, mobile / iPhone and Serious games summits were running in parallel. Besides the summits and the main conference and expo there is a lot of business, luncheons and other events happening outside the conference. Various IGDA SIGs were also well represented at the GDC. At the expo 3D gaming and Playstation Move were playable at the Sony stand. I was happy to see Super Stardust 3D there as well :)
You can find some GDC2010 presentations from the GDC Vault for free.
More photos and good mood from the event.
IGDA Finland will arrange "Startup stories" session on Tuesday 8th of June . We are now looking for game startup companies who would like to share their story with the rest of us. What made you to start something new? What are you after? How are you going to achieve that? When? Would you like to share your story, experiences, lessons learned, challenges? If you have something to say (in 15 minutes), e-mail to Sonja Kangas (@ igda fi) to get more information.
IGDA Finland Gathering – a night like no other! If the spring is not enough to cheer you up worry no more -- next IGDA Finland Gathering is just two weeks away! Next time we’ll meet on Tuesday April the 6th.
Those who were at the GDC2010, come to share your thoughts and ideas from the event. Missed GDC? No worries, just come to chat with fellow developers, relax and party! We might also have something extra for you guys. More information to follow!
Note! Cuba Cafe is hosting a movie premiere reception right before IGDA so please come after 7PM so we’ll get those movie geeks out of the way.
